Course Description ELA/English Language Arts is designed to present a broad scope in grammar, composition, and literature. Students are acquainted with short stories, poetry/epic poetry, drama, novels, and essay/research writing. Emphasis is placed on high standards of workmanship, organization, critical evaluation, and creative ability in writing and reading. Assignments along with grammar and literature skills will afford opportunities for developing reasoning abilities.
Course goals
Read, analyze, and respond to a variety of literary genres: short stories, novels, drama, and non-fiction.
Increase proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Practice strategies to generate focus, compose, revise, and edit works of writing to produce unified and coherent writing which engages the reader.
Use current technology for the purpose of research and word processing.
Develop the use of specific vocabulary.
Identify and use parts of speech and basic sentence patterns.
